Jade Valour
Jade Valour originally from New York, is now a New Zealand citizen.
“My life has been lived for the love of music, the performing arts, and creativity in general – on stage and in front of the cameras, behind the scenes of theatre, opera, television, in film, writing and, most recently in the crafts of jewellery and ceramics.
I began drama, voice and music studies at age 12, graduated from the High School of Music, and later the Manhattan School of Music in New York, before moving to Germany to continue my musical career.
In the ’80s I worked behind the scenes in major opera houses and in North German Television classical music programs in Germany, as a dramaturg, director’s assistant with some of the most prominent directors of the time. I travelled extensively, working behind the scenes, on tour with the Hamburg Opera and the Hamburg Ballet.
In the 90s I went back to performing as a solo artist, creating my own theatrical performances and jazz programs, collaborating with other musicians, and recording my own music.
This continued into the 2000s with a solo album that I co-produced. I also began writing with a partner, and in 2013 we self-published two epic fantasy/science fiction novels titled “Salomé – The Prophecy” and “Salomé – Revelation” that are in their 2nd edition, along with the corresponding feature screenplay (www.project-salome.com).
My passion for what I do has kept me constantly learning and seeking new avenues of development, new means of creative expression, which led to my discovering my delight in exploring the many facets of ceramics and jewellery making. My love has always belonged to the sea, and this love constantly finds its way into my work.
I have had solo exhibitions with both my ceramics and jewellery, and been a part of joint exhibitions, as well as having my work accepted in galleries around Wellington.”

Coral Fantasy
Sterling Silver and Larimar
“Coral Fantasy is based on a piece of coral that I found in Vanuatu. Inspired by its beautiful shape and texture, I made a mould of it at Weta Workshop that allowed me to work with all aspects of the form, including for the chain elements. The beautiful blue tones of the larimar stone speak to me of the sea and its depths.”
Silver Scallop
Sterling Silver
“Silver Scallop is based on the ceramic model of delicate shell I found in Vanuatu. The chain elements have been cuttlefish cast.”
Ocean Ripples
Sterling Silver and Larimar
“As a child I spent hours on the beach, fascinated by the endless changing movement of the waves, imagining what hidden treasures lay beneath them. The larimar stone’s lovely patterns and sea tones are reminiscent of the beautiful beaches of the Dominican Republic from which it comes. Medallion, chain elements and catch have been cuttlefish cast and reflect the motion of light on the sea.”
Wave Earrings
Sterling Silver
Watching the waves cresting and falling on the shoreline in Island Bay, Wellington inspired these delicate cuttlefish cast earrings that lend elegance to casual and dress occasions.
Tidal Pool Earrings
Sterling Silver and Enamel
“From the flow of melting silver into water, to the flow of melting transparent enamel, these earrings and the accompanying pendant express the wonder of the tidal pools I saw exploring the Caribbean beaches of Cozumel.”
